Laser Toning

What is Laser Toning Treatment?
Laser toning is a technique that uses low-flux laser emissions over several treatment sessions to address hyperpigmentation, including sun spots, uneven skin tone, and melasma. Essentially, laser toning can describe any low-level laser treatment that is performed 5-15 times to achieve optimal results. With short energy pulses penetrating deeper dermal layers of the skin, laser toning destroys pigmentation to erase spots, color changes, and lesions without damaging surrounding tissue or the epidermis, meaning the risk of developing side effects is low, and there is no recovery time associated with the treatment.

What Does Laser Toning Do?

  1. Laser toning treats a range of skin conditions and can be used for:

    • Eliminating spots and hyperpigmentation
    • Reducing symptoms of melasma
    • Erasing acne scars
    • Improving skin tone
    • Enhancing skin texture

How Many Laser Toning Sessions for Hyperpigmentation? The number of treatment sessions needed for hyperpigmentation depends on several factors, including the size and area of treatment, the type of laser used, and the skin condition being treated. Most patients will undergo between 5 and 15 treatment sessions spaced about a week apart to achieve the best results. Due to the low-flux emissions used in laser toning, the treatment lasts longer, reducing the risk of adverse events.

Is Laser Toning Permanent? Laser toning destroys the pigmented cells in the treatment area to reduce the visibility of dark spots on the skin’s surface and provide patients with a more even texture and tone. While the specific targeted cells destroyed during treatment are permanently eliminated, there is a risk of developing hyperpigmentation again. Repeated sun exposure may lead to new dark spots or worsen existing hyperpigmentation, making it crucial to apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen whenever going outdoors. Patients with melasma may experience a recurrence of the condition once the laser toning treatment ends.

Is Laser Toning Painful? Laser toning is a procedure associated with minimal discomfort during and after treatment. Most patients do not feel any pain during the laser treatment. Afterward, patients may experience mild side effects, such as redness at the treatment site, which typically resolves within 48 hours.

Laser Toning is Used for Various Skin Issues, Including:

    1. Hyperpigmentation: Used to reduce dark spots caused by sun exposure, melasma, and other blemishes.
    2. Uneven Skin Tone: Helps achieve a more even and brighter skin tone.
    3. Improving Skin Texture: Can help soften the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
    4. Acne: Certain forms of laser toning, such as blue lasers, can help reduce acne breakouts.
    5. Treating Oil Glands: Used to reduce the size of oil glands and prevent acne.
    6. Skin Rejuvenation: Can be used to promote collagen production and renew the skin’s appearance.

This treatment is safe for all skin types and often requires multiple sessions for optimal results.
